Position Overview:

Responsible for leading the health, safety and environmental management at the site, including coordinating behavioral-based programs, IFF’s safety rules implementation, industrial hygiene, hazard identification and risk assessment, health and safety training, and employee participation, all driving the plant to zero injuries and incidents. Act as a main role in Safety Organization, lead and encourage the Safety Cultural Change in Bló, represents IFF through daily actions that reinforce the corporate values; demonstrating personal commitment to a safe, healthy and environmentally-sound workplace for the rest of colleagues. Define the strategic planning and overall direction of the EHS department.

He/she must be stay ahead and identification of new safety requirements, trends and request of Bló Site. Act as a developer of the process safety plan in the site, implementing PSM programs, leading investigations and root cause analyses, assessing PSM and reliability systems, checking operating and maintenance procedures and assessing equipment reliability systems. Additionally, this means to promote the set of values, attitudes, competencies and behavior patterns that, either individually or collectively, determine the commitment to the style and competence of a health, safety and security system.

Provide leadership, counsel and technical assistance in PSM to the Rest of Organization and develop the PSM Culture to his/her Direct Reports

Establish and fulfill environmental regulatory compliance at Bló Site. Develop and implement environmental strategies and action plans to ensure sustainable development. Lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices.

Auditing, analyzing and collating environmental performance data and reporting information to internal staff, clients and regulatory agencies.

Maintain the operational conditions of the waste water treatment plant in a high level of performance and optimize the waste management guaranteeing the annual budget to ensure economic sustainability and maximizing benefits.

The key focus areas of the role are:

Encourage Safety Culture in the site from the top management to the shop floor.

Communicates directly and supports Safety department to ensure safety compliance all the time.

Personally provide leadership, counsel and technical assistance to the operation managers, technical advisors, maintenance manager, safety manager and supervisors, plant engineering and hourly plant staff in the field of process safety management to attain production, quality, cost, safety and environmental goals.

Having knowledge and keeping it up-to-date of process safety, especially in organic chemistry.

Lead, Develop and Strengthen the PSM Program in Bló Site (Process Safety, Investigation Procedure (root cause analysis), CAPA’s Implementation, Hazop, PHA, etc…)

Having knowledge and keeping it up-to-date of safety risk assessment (Hazop, PHA, FMEA, what if, etc…).

Enforce the management of change procedure (MOC) in the site.

Root Cause method must be applied as mandatory during investigations of accidents/incidents.

Suggest improvements, innovation ideas or activities, to keep the site in alert safety mode anytime.

Reporting to management regularly on the status of the process safety management program and related activities.

Lead task forces as a tool to implement the main pillars of the PSM

Management and control of the process safety information (PSI)

Analyze the SIL (Safety Integrity Level) implementation in the installations of the facility.

Monitor process parameters and waste water treatment plant troubleshooting.

Optimize every process to achieve treatment rates improvements.

Maintain and review the chemical and physical features of the whole waste products.

Fix proper chemical flow operating rates in the plant.

Propose and implement technical or management improvements in order to solve the operating problems, to increase the performance of the plant or to reduce the operating costs.

Manage, assign and train the environmental department staff. Ensure operating discipline and proper procedures are followed.

Act as a main contact regarding any environmental, health and safety requirement or issue in front of the local and Spanish administration.

keep up to date with changes in environmental legislation and initiatives.

Manage the environmental permit procedure and ensure its compliance.

Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the stakeholders.

Plan and coordinate engineering and maintenance activities including regulatory inspections.

Responsible of the housekeeping operations of the facility.

Maintain the environmental archive updated.

Required Skills
  • Degree in Chemistry Engineering or equivalent
  • Health and safety qualification
  • Knowledge in PSM
  • Knowledge in chemical manufacturing
  • Knowledge in Safety Risk Assessment implementation
  • PRL expertise
  • Knowledge in Legal safety requirements (Seveso, APQ, PCIO, etc…)
  • Knowledge in Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Knowledge in ISO management systems: ISO 9000, 14000 and 18000
  • High English level
Required Experience
  • 10 years minimum as HSE manager in a petro chemistry or chemical industry
  • Experience in PSM implementation
  • Experience in performing Process Risk Assessment
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Preferably in associated industry of 5 years with knowledge of Lean and culture change within organizations.
