Posting Text: General Function: Provide support to students of color with an emphasis on Hispanic/ Latino student population; coordinate multicultural programming and serve as retention specialist to assist with the retention of underrepresented student groups; initiate and implement educational programs concerning multicultural issues. South Dakota State University currently has over 170 Hispanic/ Latino students and 650 domestic minority students.

Reporting Relationship: Executive Director of TRiO Programs & Multicultural Affairs

Contract Length: 12 months, full-time.

Principal Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and supervise tutorial services for domestic minority students.
2. Provide academic advising for Freshman Hispanic/ Latino students.
3. Serve as retention specialist for Hispanic/ Latino students and provide overall support for the SDSU Student Success Model.
4. Co-chair Summer Bridge Program for freshman students (coordinate evenings and weekend activities).
5. Provide training to cultural student organizations on topics such as program planning, leadership development, heritage celebration, diversity, etc.
6. Participate in New Student Orientation to provide support to domestic minority students.
7. Advise the Latin American Students' Association cultural organization.
8. Coordinate Latino Heritage Month Celebration, Latin Dance Workshops, Latino Speaker Series, multicultural educational, and diversity programs celebrating heritage and culture.
9. Serves as an advocate for minority student concerns and issues.
10. Serve on the Division's Weekend STUFF program committee and provide program support each semester.
11. Responsible for evenings and weekend programs and meetings with Latin American Students' Association.
12. Coordinate the off-campus living learning community for traditional aged first-time students.
13. Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications: Required: Master's Degree and one year related experience to include Graduate Assistantships or Bachelor's Degree and three years of experience; ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff; effective human relation skills; and effective communication skills. Desired: Understanding of issues facing students of color in higher education; programming; knowledge of recruitment and retention initiatives, and program assessment; ability to apply student development theory, supervise, and enforce policies; and basic computer/website skills.
